The CIWM/WAMITAB continuing competence scheme is designed to ensure that the technically competent person certificate of technical competence holder, units or a qualification that is part of the operator competence scheme) on a waste site has knowledge and skills that keep pace with changes made across the waste management industry, such as the introduction of new legislation, technologies and techniques.
Safety Advisory Services UK can provide you with refresher training based around the Continuing Competence Syllabus to ensure that you are up-to-date and have the necessary knowledge and skills to pass an assessment that demonstrates you have kept your competence up to date(Please be advised that we are not a test centre and we offer refresher training only).
You would need to take the continuing competence test if you completed your certificate of technical competence between the following dates:
Period 1- if you achieved your continuing competence certificate between 1st March 2009 and 29 February 2012 the certificate needs to be renewed between 1st March 2012 and 28th February 2014.
Period 2 - if you achieved your continuing competence certificate between 1st March 2012 and 28th February 2014 the certificate needs to be renewed between 1st March 2014 and 29th February 2016.

Everyone will have to take the generic sections of the test i.e. (Legislation, Health & Safety and Environmental Protection) followed by an Activity-Specific option relevant to your competence. Some of the Activity Specific options include (This list is not exhaustive):
- Managing Transfer Hazardous Waste
- Managing Transfer Hazardous Waste (Clinical)
- Management Treatment Hazardous Waste
- End of Life Vehicles
- Metal Recycling Sites
